Ask Roni: From Fat to Healthy to Confident?

Hi Roni,
I have just come across your blog via My Fitness Pal & have to say I’m impressed that you have been doing this for as long as you have because your passion is definitely still there!

My question to you is, when your blogging clearly demonstrates that your passion is for living healthy rather than just losing weight why is your slogan “From fat to skinny to confident”? Shouldn’t it be “From fat to healthy to confident”?

Just a thought I had after reading your March 2013 post with the male & female figures labeled & numbered 0-9. Most of us just want to be lean & being lean is just a byproduct of being healthy which is what I think you demonstrate so beautifully! Keep up the good work, you are such an inspiration!

Hi Nicole!

I LOVE this question for 2 reasons.

  1. It reminded me everyone interprets things differently because I didn’t mean in the way you took it all. And…
  2. It gives me a chance to explain!

To me From Fat to Skinny to Confident isn’t a linear path. The words aren’t in an order of cause/effect — fat didn’t cause skinny and skinny didn’t cause confident. I was trying to articulate (albeit poorly) the journey I took — which was initially a quest for skinniness but now is a passion for fierce confidence — and trying to compare it to typical before/after stories. You know the ones where everyone was once fat and then skinny. Done. End of story.

It’s much more complicated than that. I’m trying to highlight a much deeper (at least to me) part of the equation, which is regardless of my body, my end goal is confidence and that can happen at any size.

Really, my tagline should be something more along the lines of… From Average to Body Conscious to Fat to Skinny to Confident, demonstrating the entire journey I’ve taken with my body and how I feel about it.

Does that make more sense now?

Thanks for giving me a chance to clarify!  I’m sure you aren’t the only one to misinterpret it.
